Collins Bomali, co-Port Welfare Officer with Robert Wileman at Biblia Cape Town, is making good progress with his ministry at the harbour.
“The Biblia ministry at Cape Town harbour is smaller compared to the other Biblia ports due to fewer ships docking here,” says Jaco Leeuwner, Biblia Coordinator. “We are very grateful for Robert Wileman who teaches him well.
“Ministering on ships has many facets and protocol of which the understanding of different cultures is very important. I am looking at a course in anthropology for Collins. ICMA also offers an online course and it might be the best choice for him. He will be able to do it in the Cape Town office on his laptop, but it will incur some costs.”
Collins shares with us one of his ministering experiences: “On a ship I was recently visiting I met a 25 year old seafarer from North India. He shared a sad story about his childhood; his parents passed away when he was only four years old. Thereafter he was adopted by his aunt in Mumbai but he kept praying to God for work. God answered his prayers when he was 22 years old.
“This was his first visit to South Africa and he is happy that here are Port Welfare Officers who pray for them under the conditions they are working in. We prayed together and now he is my friend.”
